Dori Jonetz-Knude (b. 1997, Schwabach, Germany) is a German-American painter whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, and performance. His work investigates genealogy, language, religion, race, and historical inheritance through a large-scale, interconnected project known as the ten-cycle cosmology, comprising approximately 2,400 works developed between 2019 and 2026.

Working between German and American cultural traditions, Jonetz-Knude combines bilingual inscriptions, recurring pictorial forms, and autobiographical material with broader questions of collective memory and inherited structures. His practice proposes Genealogical Expressionism, a framework in which genealogy functions not simply as subject matter but as an organizing principle for image-making. Across the cosmology, recurring visual and linguistic elements migrate between cycles, linking personal experience with historical, theological, and cultural inheritance.

Although active across multiple media, Jonetz-Knude regards drawing as the conceptual center of his practice, with painting, sculpture, installation, and performance operating as interconnected extensions of the same system.

Born in Bavaria and raised in Germany before moving to the United States at age eighteen, Jonetz-Knude’s work reflects the intersections of German history, Black American military lineage, regional language, and Christian traditions. His completed cosmology represents a sustained investigation into how inherited structures shape visual form, positioning individual works as components within a larger architectural whole rather than as isolated objects.
